Movies about Icelandic music

The music scene in Iceland became popular with artists such as Bjork, Torrini, mum and Sigur Ros. But there are many more artists from this island which you can be interested in. A very inspirational and experimental music scene emerged in 80s and played around pop, rock and as I said, experimental stuff. For the beginning of the journey through Icelandic music, I would recommend three full-length movies: Rokk í Reykjavík (1982) The TV documentary movie features a very unique and expressive scene of 1980s Icelandic music, mostly punk rock, post-punk and new wave bands. Worth mentioning appearance of singer Bjork with Tappi Tikarass ensemble and the band called Þeyr. Recommended, but not for wider audience. Screaming Masterpiece (2005) This documentary movie features more popular bands, some of them world-recognizable, such as Bjork, Sigur Ros, mum, Slowblow, Mugison, Hilmarsson and Bang Gang. It also includes a great live Sigur footage and early Sugarcubes video. Heima (2006) This one features Sigur Ros and it’s a live DVD containing footages from gigs in Iceland rather than a documenary movie. Sublime and inspirational audiovisual piece of art. Strongly recommended!
